How safe is it?

Home is the center of our lives, our place to retreat with family or friends at day's end. If you can't be safe and sound at home, where can you go? Guess again. Although you might not suspect it, there are enough hazards lurking in most homes to cause a real threat of injury or even death!

Pick Your Peril

Life is full of risks and you're not immune from them at home.

The multiple dangers of choking, scalding, burning, falling, fire, gun accidents, poisoning and countless others are always there. These everyday risks are NOT to be ignored. Here are just a few examples:

  • FACT: Lead from paint can cause damage to the brain and nervous system, at all ages but especially in children and babies.

  • FACT: More children die from home accidents than from all childhood diseases combined, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. FACT: In 1997, an estimated 83,000 children ages 14 and under were treated in hospital emergency rooms for burn-related injuries.

  • FACT: The batteries in many household smoke detectors are dead, because we forget to check them.
